Scrubber - Project Intro
Ive been going pretty hard on the R6 project and I've decided to give myself a bit of a break. I have a couple smaller droid builds lined up but today I'm going to get started on My Little Scrubber.
A Spark of Hope - Scrubber backstory
I have said before that I like to have a Backstory to go along with my builds, and this Scrubber is no exception...
Manufactured by a local Naboo engineering firm, S3C1 was a hangar scrubber droid, featuring the Boxy, utilitarian design of all scrubbers and equipped with the latest cleaning technology. From the moment it was activated, S3C1 was assigned to the dirtiest jobs in Theed's starship hangars. Its designation seemed almost cursed, as it constantly found itself assigned to the most neglected corners of the hangars, where oil spills, carbon scoring, and debris accumulated unnoticed by others.
Scrubber-Building the Main Body
I began this project by constructing the main body for my new Scrubber. Looking at my reference I could see the body was clearly an upside-down Action Packer Tote and I just happened to have on of these on hand.
Adding Body Details
As I move along with my Scrubber Build I began to add details to the Body, including the front Holo Projector and the Rear greeblie frame. I ran into some issues with the Primer not adhering to the HDPE plastic that the tote is made from.
More Details and Paint
Moving right along I'm now adding more Body Details and doing the first passes with paint and weathering. I add the sheet metal corners and prep for the side hoses.
Finishing The Scrubber
Once I had the main body details in place I was able to spend some time finalizing the top of the scrubber before moving on to final paint and weathering. I added some simple electronics including the flashers and a couple servos for the Holo Projector and top sensors.
