I have said before that I like to have a Backstory to go along with my builds, and this Scrubber is no exception...
Manufactured by a local Naboo engineering firm, S3C1 was a hangar scrubber droid, featuring the Boxy, utilitarian design of all scrubbers and equipped with the latest cleaning technology. From the moment it was activated, S3C1 was assigned to the dirtiest jobs in Theed's starship hangars. Its designation seemed almost cursed, as it constantly found itself assigned to the most neglected corners of the hangars, where oil spills, carbon scoring, and debris accumulated unnoticed by others.
Despite its challenging assignments, S3C1 performed its duties diligently and without complaint. Over the years, it developed a peculiar bond with the hangar it serviced. It came to recognize the patterns of activity among the pilots and engineers, even harboring a quiet admiration for the sleek lines of the Naboo starfighters it worked tirelessly around, a silent observer amidst the mechanical bustle.
Years of relentless service took their toll on S3C1. Despite regular maintenance checks, its processors began to falter, and its once-efficient cleaning mechanisms slowed. The droid's once-effortless movements became labored, and its optics dimmed with each passing day.
During a routine inspection, a critical malfunction caused S3C1 to inadvertently spill a cleaning solution onto a vital power relay. The resulting short circuit triggered a chain reaction, causing a minor explosion that damaged several nearby starfighters and endangered the lives of the maintenance crew.
In the aftermath of the accident, despite the heroic efforts of the crew to contain the damage, S3C1 was deemed unfit for further service and slated for disassembly and recycling. However, veteran hangar maintenance worker Jorun (a seasoned tinkerer with a home workshop) couldn't bear to see the droid dismantled. To him, S3C1 represented more than just a malfunctioning machine; it was a symbol of dedication and resilience.
Instead of allowing the droid to be dismantled, Jorun snuck S3C1 out of the Hangar and to his personal workshop. There, amidst the assorted tools and half-finished projects, the Scrubber found a new home. Though decommissioned, it waited with hope. Its optics, dimmed by wear and the passage of time, still held a faint spark—a hope that one day, it might yet return to service, ready to restore cleanliness and order to Naboo's starship hangars.
